Ghana Readies 2026 Homowo Festival with Enhanced Security and Peace Calls

Police in the Tema region warned that any acts of violence, disorder or threats to public safety during the Homowo Festival will be prosecuted. Regional Police Commander DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu highlighted concerns over chieftaincy disputes, land‑guard activities, student conflicts and the ritual of sprinkling kpokpoi, which has previously sparked attacks and counter‑attacks.

The Teshie Traditional Council officially launched the 2026 Homowo Festival, with Paramount Chief Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, police, the Ghana Armed Forces and other officials pledging coordinated effort to ensure peace, security and cultural preservation. The launch referenced violent clashes in the previous year's celebrations that resulted in deaths and property damage, and announced stronger cooperation among traditional authorities, security agencies and local government for this year’s event.
