Ghana recruitment fraud case sees ex-soldier and aide charged

Patience Mbaye, a 41‑year‑old ward assistant, appeared before an Accra court charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and three counts of fraud by false pretences after allegedly collecting GH¢675,000 from 26 individuals who were promised recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The prosecution said she acted with former Senior Warrant Officer Jeffery Naboung, who remains at large and is alleged to have taken GH¢1,005,000 from 47 people under the same pretense.

Mbaye entered a not‑guilty plea, was released on bail of GH¢100,000 with three sureties (one a public servant), and was ordered to report to the investigating officer every Wednesday and Friday. The case has been adjourned to 27 July 2026. Victims include prison officer Fatima Adam and okada rider Abdul Malik Ali, who allege the money was never used for recruitment and was not refunded. The matter was reported to police for investigation.
