Ghana retrieves 2,000 ECG containers from ports

Deputy Energy Minister Richard Gyan-Mensah informed Parliament's Public Accounts Committee that approximately 2,000 of the 2,760 Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers previously flagged as uncleared at national ports have been retrieved.

The recovered containers are currently being held at Ministry of Energy and ECG warehouses. However, 283 containers remain missing. Gyan-Mensah noted that tracing the remaining units is difficult as they are believed to be scattered across various terminals, necessitating extensive checks against customs and port documentation.

A multi-agency committee—including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ghana Revenue Authority, security agencies, and the ports—meets every Monday to track the missing items. While retrieval speeds previously reached 50 containers per day, the pace has recently slowed significantly. An official report detailing the recovery efforts is expected by the end of October.
