Ghana Revenue Authority to overhaul tax enforcement via digital monitoring

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is preparing a digital overhaul of business tax enforcement to address significant non-compliance. Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong reported that approximately 60% of businesses in Ghana are failing to fully comply with their tax obligations.

To combat this, the GRA plans to intensify the deployment of Fiscal Electronic Devices by the final quarter of 2026. This technology is intended to provide greater visibility over commercial transactions and Value Added Tax (VAT) reporting by capturing information at the point of sale. The initiative aims to widen the revenue base and prevent non-compliant firms from gaining an unfair competitive advantage over businesses that meet their statutory obligations.
