Ghana Sanitation Committee backs National Sanitation Authority Bill

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Water and Sanitation has expressed support for the proposed National Sanitation Authority Bill, stating that a dedicated authority could improve the management of waste and sanitation.

During a monitoring tour of the Volta and Oti regions, the Committee visited the Ho Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) at Akrofu-Agorve. Committee Chairman and Nkwanta North MP John Oti Bless commended the Volta Region, describing it as the cleanest region visited during their assessment of eight different regions so far.

While reviewing waste collection, recycling, and composting operations, the Committee also addressed operational hurdles. Representatives from the Jospong Group of Companies highlighted infrastructure gaps, specifically noting that poor road networks leading to the Ho IRECOP facility hinder effective operations.
