Ghana SEC launches Africa Virtual Asset Summit 2026
The Securities and Exchange Commission, Ghana (SEC) has announced the Africa Virtual Asset Summit (AVAS) 2026. Scheduled for November 2 and 3, 2026, in Accra, the summit will focus on the theme ‘Tokenisation: Africa’s Pathway Towards Building a Trusted, Inclusive and Innovative Virtual Asset Ecosystem.’
A primary goal of the event is the creation of the Accra Declaration, a framework intended to establish shared principles and recommendations for responsible virtual asset and tokenisation ecosystems across the African continent. The summit aims to foster policy recommendations, industry collaboration, and cross-border partnerships between market participants and supervisors.
Director-General Dr. James Klutse Avedzi noted that while Africa’s participation in virtual assets is already significant, growth must be supported by frameworks that protect investors and maintain market confidence. Ghana currently utilizes the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154) to provide a legal foundation for the sector, covering areas such as tokenisation, exchanges, and investment advisory services.
