Ghana Secures Final IMF Review and $318‑$371 Million Disbursement

The International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board approved Ghana’s sixth and final review of the US$3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, concluding the three‑year bailout that began in May 2023. The approval unlocks the programme’s last tranche, estimated at US$318 million in the IMF schedule and reported as US$371 million in Ghanaian statements, to be transferred to the Bank of Ghana.

Ghana will now move to a 36‑month non‑financing Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) with the IMF, designed to monitor and support structural reforms after the ECF ends. Analyst Nelson Kwegbaje said the PCI “is just a comfort and assurance to international investors that their money is safe,” while Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson confirmed the country will not seek an extension of the financing arrangement.

IMF Mission Chief Dr Ruben Atoyan said the funds would be disbursed immediately after the board’s decision. Recent macroeconomic data show inflation at about 5.3%, real GDP growth of 6 % in 2025, a primary fiscal‑balance surplus of 2.1 % of GDP, a current‑account surplus of 7.9 % of GDP and foreign‑exchange reserves near US$11.9 billion, indicating substantial stabilisation under the programme.
