Ghana seeks $100m+ to complete Damongo Science and Technology University

Ghana’s Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, is seeking more than $100 million to complete and equip the proposed University of Science and Technology in Damongo, located in the Savannah Region. During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Cong Song, Iddrisu noted that while the Chinese government provided a $30 million grant last year to begin construction, the total cost for infrastructure and specialized equipment is expected to exceed $100 million.

The institution is intended to serve as a center of excellence, focusing on emerging fields such as robotics, digital sciences, artificial intelligence, and science and technology. The goal is to prepare Ghanaian students for a digital global economy and provide specialized skills for international innovation environments.

This project is part of a broader government strategy to establish universities in underserved regions to reduce educational inequalities and promote balanced national development. Ambassador Cong Song reaffirmed the importance of Ghana-China cooperation in supporting these educational development efforts.
