Ghana seeks agricultural investment and value addition
The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has called on the government to prioritize food processing, export development, and infrastructure within its proposed US$10 billion New Economy Policy. Executive Director Bismark Nortey emphasized that for the policy to succeed, investments must move beyond simple food production to include storage facilities, irrigation, mechanization, and improved marketing systems to reduce post-harvest losses.
Simultaneously, Ghana is engaging international stakeholders to strengthen its agrifood sector. At the World Food Prize Foundation in Iowa, United States, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture John Dumelo presented the country’s agricultural development agenda. The government is currently pursuing the Feed Ghana Programme, launched in April 2025, which aims to increase domestic food production and strengthen the agricultural value chain through support for crops, poultry, and agribusinesses.
