Ghana seeks Chinese investment for green mining and regional expansion

Ghanaian Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah is actively seeking Chinese investment to advance green mining technologies and sustainable resource management within the country.

During a visit to China, Minister Buah met with leadership from Shandong Gold Group and toured the manufacturing facilities of Zijin LongKing Company Limited. He encouraged these companies to utilize Ghana as a strategic hub for broader industrial expansion across the African continent.

The discussions focused on adopting environmentally friendly technologies, such as electric mining vehicles, pollution control, and water purification systems. Minister Buah emphasized the importance of environmental rehabilitation and worker safety, expressing interest in learning from Chinese practices in tree-planting and ecological protection.

To ensure long-term domestic capability, the Minister proposed the establishment of training centers in Ghana. Such facilities would aim to develop local expertise and equip young Ghanaians with the technical skills required to maintain and repair advanced mining machinery, reducing reliance on overseas technical support.
