Ghana seeks licence to launch Women’s Development Bank

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko told Parliament that the company created to run the Women’s Development Bank, WDB Ghana Limited, has been registered and is now awaiting an operating licence from the Bank of Ghana. The government has earmarked GH¢51.3 million for the initiative in the 2025 budget and a further GH¢450 million in the 2026 budget to expand financial inclusion for women and women‑owned businesses. WDB Ghana Limited was incorporated on 26 January 2026, and the finance ministry will provide a detailed update during the mid‑year fiscal review in July. The programme is presented as a key intervention to broaden economic opportunities for women across the country.
