Ghana seeks to leverage ICT growth and capital markets for economic productivity
Ghana is working to leverage its growing ICT capacity and digital infrastructure to drive economy-wide productivity. The Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Ministry is seeking increased private capital, including venture capital and private equity, to support the ICT value chain. This initiative aims to transition Ghana from a consumer of digital services to a producer and exporter, utilizing a growing pool of digital talent in fields such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
Simultaneously, there is a growing demand for investment opportunities within the Ghanaian market. While the Ghana Stock Exchange saw strong performance in 2025, experts note that the primary challenge is not a lack of capital, but a shortage of businesses prepared to access public markets. The expansion of the pension industry, with assets reaching GHS111.1 billion in 2025, provides a substantial pool of long-term capital seeking diverse investment opportunities beyond government securities.
In the financial sector, mobile money platforms processed approximately 954 million transactions valued at GH¢493 billion in June 2026. The Bank of Ghana is encouraging financial institutions to utilize transaction data and open-banking infrastructure to improve credit access for small and medium-sized enterprises.
