Ghana Shifts to Growth Phase as Economy Records 4.7% Expansion in April

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced that Ghana is entering the final six months of a strict fiscal consolidation programme and will soon transition from "shock therapy" to a growth‑focused agenda aimed at boosting production, supporting businesses and creating jobs, while warning against a return to reckless borrowing.

Data released by the Ghana Statistical Service showed the economy grew 4.7% year‑on‑year in April 2026. The services sector led with 6.0% growth, accounting for about 62% of the expansion, while stronger mining output lifted industry by 4.0%. Agriculture also returned to positive growth at 1.7% after a previous decline. The figures suggest continued resilience as the country moves from stabilisation to a growth‑oriented phase.
