Ghana Speaker Alban Bagbin launches National Integrity Awards, urges parents to keep children in Ghana for schooling
On 27 July 2026, Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin inaugurated the National Integrity Awards Scheme at the D. F. Annan Auditorium in Parliament. The programme is presented as a national effort to celebrate ethical leadership, honesty and accountability, and to recognize individuals and institutions across the executive, judiciary and parliamentary branches for integrity. Bagbin highlighted recent anti‑corruption measures and announced parliamentary reforms, including an Ethics and Standards Committee and a Commissioner for Ethics and Standards.
During the same launch, Bagbin warned Ghanaian parents against sending their children abroad for education at an early age. He argued that relocating children while they are still forming family bonds and national identity weakens patriotism and may lead to a loss of connection to Ghana, saying, “Many of you who rush your children abroad to study, I beg you, you don’t love your children because you know you are going to lose them.” He urged parents to allow children to complete basic, secondary and tertiary education in Ghana before pursuing postgraduate studies overseas, suggesting that those who study locally are more likely to return and contribute to national development.
