Ghana Special Prosecutor seeks Imam's support against corruption

Ghanaian Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng met with the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, to seek support for national anti-corruption efforts. Agyebeng appealed to the Imam to encourage the Muslim community to participate in the fight against corruption, describing it as a shared national responsibility necessary for safeguarding the country’s future.

Agyebeng noted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has recently focused significant institutional attention on legal challenges regarding its mandate, independence, and operations. He stated that the OSP views such litigation as a standard part of the role for independent institutions. He expressed renewed focus following a unanimous Supreme Court decision that affirmed the constitutionality of the OSP Act and its prosecutorial framework.

Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu expressed his support for the initiative, stating that confronting corruption is vital for future generations. He encouraged the Special Prosecutor to remain steadfast in his mandate to protect the public interest.
