The Ghana Police Service's Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has launched a crackdown on the unauthorized use of sirens and strobe lights in the Kumasi Metropolis. During a recent enforcement operation, officers intercepted 1,991 vehicles. Of these, 97 were found using unauthorized sirens and 1,830 were cited for using unapproved strobe lights or prohibited lamps.

Ashanti Regional MTTD Commander Superintendent Kwame Boadi stated that the police have moved from issuing warnings and removing equipment to active prosecution. One repeat offender has already been convicted and sentenced to three months in prison.

Under current road traffic regulations, the use of sirens and warning appliances is strictly limited to authorized vehicles, including those used by the Head of State, police, fire services, ambulances, and recognized government security agencies or bullion vans.
