Ghana Stock Exchange sees index rise and increased investor activity

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has demonstrated market resilience, with the GSE Composite Index rising 0.45% to close at 15,088.31 points. During a recent session, 10 stocks recorded gains while five declined. Digicut Production & Advertising was the top performer, with its share price increasing by 10% to GH¢0.22.

Despite the index rise, trading activity saw a decline, with volume dropping by 30% and turnover falling by 4% compared to the previous session. A total of 1,278,619 shares were traded, generating a market value of GH¢6.39 million.

Abena Amoah, Managing Director of the GSE, has encouraged corporate entities to utilize the exchange to raise patient capital for operations rather than relying on debt. She noted that the GSE is one of the best-performing exchanges in Africa, recording a 73% year-to-date gain. Amoah highlighted a significant shift in market activity, noting that monthly trades have increased from an average of 25,000 last year to approximately 300,000 this year. Recent market entries include First Atlantic Bank PLC, Zen Petroleum, and Kasapreko PLC.
