Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo urges team to pressure referees after missed penalty

Ghana’s forward Antoine Semenyo said his side must be more aggressive in confronting officials after a potential penalty against England was not reviewed. “As players, we need to gang around the referee and complain,” Semenyo told reporters, urging the Black Stars to “press the officials” more often.

Coach Carlos Queiroz echoed the frustration, noting that referee Said Martínez did not summon the VAR monitor despite an airborne challenge on Prince Kwabena Adu. Queiroz warned that protests can attract yellow cards, leaving the team in a difficult position. Both highlighted that VAR, introduced in 2016, should have improved.

Ghana held England to a 0‑0 draw in Group L and will need a win or draw against Croatia to secure a top‑two finish and advance to the knockout stage.
