Ghana Taekwondo Federation launches five-region school campaign
The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has launched the Regional Taekwondo Awareness Campaign, starting in Kumasi with approximately 500 schoolchildren from 10 private schools in the Ashanti Region. The initiative aims to integrate the martial art into schools and communities to promote discipline, fitness, self-defence, and youth development.
GTF President Frederick Lartey Otu stated that the program seeks to create pathways for young athletes to progress from community training to national competitions. He emphasized that the goal is not only to produce champions but to shape disciplined and confident young citizens.
Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools, advocated for a shift in how sports are viewed within the education system, suggesting they should be treated as a foundational element of child development rather than merely a co-curricular activity. The campaign is scheduled to expand across the Ashanti, Northern, Upper West, Bono, and Central regions.
