Ghana Teachers Union Calls for Full Member Voting Rights as New York Expands Mail‑In Ballots

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is urging that every eligible member be allowed to vote in its internal elections, arguing that inclusive voting strengthens accountability, ownership and the union’s democratic legitimacy. The association highlights the need for transparent, representative leadership across all regions and ranks of teachers in Ghana.

In the United States, New York State has codified universal mail‑in voting through the Early Mail Voter Act, removing the requirement for a reason to request an absentee ballot. Officials stress that the system is safe, provides a paper trail for audits, and expands access for workers, caregivers, rural residents and economically disadvantaged voters.
