Ghana telecom sector contributed GH¢15bn in taxes in 2025

Ghana’s telecommunications sector contributed approximately GH¢15 billion in taxes, levies, and fees in 2025, accounting for roughly 6.8% of the country’s total domestic revenue of GH¢223 billion. This represents a significant increase from GH¢6 billion in 2022 and GH¢9 billion in 2023.

According to tax analyst Francis Timore Boi, the largest portion of this revenue came from corporate income tax, which totaled about GH¢4.18 billion. Other major contributors included VAT-related funds and levies (GH¢1.67 billion), withholding taxes (GH¢1.48 billion), the Communication Service Tax (GH¢1 billion), and import duties on equipment (approximately GH¢600 million).

During a forum organized by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and Deloitte, industry representatives argued for a rethink of the current tax and regulatory structure. They suggested that targeted fiscal incentives could encourage further investment, increase digital adoption, and ultimately expand the national revenue base.
