Ghana Tertiary Education Commission orders UDS to restore evening LLB classes

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has ordered the University for Development Studies (UDS) to immediately cease delivering its accredited Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme on weekends and revert to its approved evening schedule.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, GTEC stated that the university unilaterally changed the mode of delivery without prior written approval. The regulator noted that the mode of delivery is an integral part of accreditation conditions, which are based on specific academic, staffing, and infrastructural arrangements. GTEC characterized the shift as a material departure from accreditation conditions and a case of regulatory non-compliance.

The directive impacts students, many of whom are working professionals, such as teachers and civil servants, who enrolled in the programme specifically for its evening format. The commission emphasized that the unauthorized change affects academic contact hours, faculty availability, and quality assurance arrangements.
