Ghana to reopen diplomatic mission in Ireland after 17 years
Ghana is set to reopen its diplomatic mission in Ireland, marking the return of a permanent presence after 17 years. The mission was originally closed in September 2009 due to budgetary constraints.
A Ghanaian delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister James Gyakye Quayson, arrived in Dublin on September 22, 2026, ahead of the official reopening. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that reinstating the mission aims to open a new chapter in Ghana-Ireland relations and provide a formal channel to deepen diplomatic cooperation.
The reopening is also intended to improve consular services for the growing Ghanaian community in Ireland. Previously, citizens had to rely on missions in other European countries for services such as passport renewals and document authentication. The mission will provide a dedicated office in Dublin to strengthen engagement with the local Ghanaian diaspora.
