Ghana Tourism Authority shuts down four facilities in Central Region

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has temporarily closed four hospitality establishments in the Central Region for violating tourism regulations. The affected properties include Elmina Beach Resort in Elmina, as well as Savoy Hotel, Veke Executive Lodge, and the Airbnb property Wiz Homes, all located in Cape Coast.

According to Regional Director of Tourism Charles Buabin, the closures resulted from various breaches, including operating without valid licenses, failure to pay the tourism levy, and providing substandard facilities or poor service. The enforcement action is part of an ongoing effort to ensure compliance ahead of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations in September.

Buabin emphasized that all accommodation enterprises, including Airbnb rentals, must be registered and licensed under Ghanaian law. To reopen, the facilities must rectify identified defects and pay applicable regulatory fines. The GTA has advised the public to verify the licensing status of any accommodation before booking.
