Ghana Trade Minister calls for university-industry partnerships

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, has advocated for increased collaboration between research laboratories and manufacturing factories. Speaking at the 14th Global Biennial Congress and Alumni Homecoming of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, the Minister emphasized that such partnerships are essential for Ghana to increase local production and expand its manufacturing capacity.

Ofosu-Adjare urged KNUST alumni to contribute their expertise, capital, and professional resources to the institution to support national industrial growth. She stated, “Our laboratories and our factories must work as partners if Ghana is to make what it consumes and sell what it makes.”

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial application, ensuring that scientific innovation translates into practical solutions for agro-processing, product development, and industrial modernization. The event was attended by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
