Ghana Transport Minister urges airlines to lower fares after duty waivers

Ghanaian Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has called on domestic airlines to reduce ticket prices following the government's decision to waive import duties on aircraft parts. The appeal was made during the unveiling of Africa World Airlines' new 102-seater Embraer E190 aircraft.

Nikpe argued that the removal of these duties reduces operating costs for carriers, and he urged airlines to ensure these savings are passed on to travelers rather than being kept solely as profit. He noted that the combination of lower maintenance costs and increased passenger capacity from larger aircraft provides a significant opportunity to make air travel more affordable and accessible for the Ghanaian public.
