Ghana upholds revocation of Adamus Resources mining leases

The Ghanaian government has upheld the revocation of three mining leases—Akango, Salman, and Nkroful—held by Adamus Resources Limited. Following a review by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah confirmed the decision, citing widespread regulatory and fiscal infractions.

Investigations by the Minerals Commission revealed that Adamus Resources breached the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006, through unauthorized assignment of mineral rights, mining outside permitted areas, and failing to obtain necessary environmental approvals. The company also faces significant outstanding debts, including GHS 290.5 million in tax liabilities and GHS 86.8 million in unpaid mineral royalties.

The Minerals Commission has been directed to assume immediate administrative control of the mining concessions to ensure operational continuity and protect workers' jobs. While the Ministry rejected speculation that the revocation is intended to facilitate the sale of the company's assets, Adamus Resources has labeled the move as an illegal abuse of power and has indicated intentions to challenge the decision in court.

Reports indicate tension at the Salman site, where individuals claiming to represent the World Gold Council have reportedly entered the concession shortly after the government's announcement of administrative takeover.
