Ghana warns citizens of fraudulent job offers in Zambia
The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to its citizens regarding fraudulent job offers in Zambia. The alert follows a joint operation on August 23, 2026, by the Zambia Police Service, the Drug Enforcement Commission, and the Department of Immigration, which targeted a facility suspected of organized cybercrime.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 79 individuals, including 10 Zambians and 69 foreign nationals. Among those detained were six Ghanaians. Reports from the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka indicate that some victims were recruited through seemingly legitimate roles, such as online data entry positions. Once in Zambia, they were allegedly forced into online scam activities after their employers confiscated their passports.
The Ministry emphasized that human trafficking syndicates are utilizing fake employment opportunities to lure unsuspecting job seekers into illegal activities. Ghanaian citizens traveling to or seeking work in Zambia are advised to thoroughly verify all job offers, recruitment agencies, and prospective employers before departure. Those already residing in Zambia are urged to remain vigilant regarding online job opportunities and maintain regular contact with the Ghana High Commission for consular assistance.
