Ghana Water Limited addresses severe water shortages in Tema and Ashaiman

Residents of Community 25 in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality are demanding urgent action following a prolonged water crisis. Some households have reportedly gone months, and in some instances up to a year, without a reliable water supply. Eric Martey of the Community 25 Residents Association noted that despite recent pipeline repairs by Ghana Water Limited (GWL), the community has not received water through its dedicated line for approximately two months.

Concerns have been raised regarding public safety, as dry fire hydrants in the area pose a risk to nearby fuel storage facilities and major installations. Residents have reported that while they pay for dedicated lines, the supply remains undependable.

In response, GWL Communications Manager Stanley Martey acknowledged the gap between water demand and supply in the Greater Accra Region, specifically affecting areas such as Tema, Ashaiman, Gbetsile, and Community 25. He stated that the company is troubleshooting the distribution system to manage available volumes more effectively. GWL aims to ensure that households can receive water at least twice a week through better management of the existing system, noting that supply frequency often depends on a community's location within the distribution network.
