Ghana Water Limited assures tap water is safe for direct consumption

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has assured the public that tap water is safe to drink directly, provided it has not been stored in a tank. Stanley Martey, GWL Communications Manager, stated that water flowing directly from the tap is fresh and typically less than 24 hours old.

Martey noted that GWL water meets both national and international drinking water standards, including those set by the World Health Organization (WHO). He added that the company has established internal quality benchmarks that exceed the requirements of the Ghana Standards Authority.

To maintain safety, GWL employs a quality assurance team that conducts regular testing and introduces additional treatment chemicals to address external contaminants as needed. Martey emphasized that the company does not compromise on safety, stating, “If the water does not meet the required standards for drinking water, we shut down.”
