Ghana Water Limited smart meters not fully activated since 2017

Adam Mutawakilu, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, has admitted that smart meters installed by the company since 2017 have not had their remote-reading capabilities fully activated.

Despite the technology being capable of providing consumption data remotely, the company has continued to rely on customer care officers to physically visit locations and manually submit readings. Mr. Mutawakilu acknowledged that the system is currently being operated mechanically rather than utilizing its smart functions.

He stated that the current management has decided to activate the smart functionality and that work is currently underway to implement the necessary infrastructure to allow for remote data collection.
