Ghana Water Ltd shuts Kpong plant, cutting water in Accra, Eastern Region

Ghana Water Ltd announced that the Kpong Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily shut down from Thursday, 6 August to Saturday, 8 August 2026 for a three‑day maintenance programme. The work involves isolating and replacing more than 300 metres of deteriorated 21‑inch and 42‑inch pipeline sections on the Kpong–Tema transmission line to improve reliability and reduce water losses.

The shutdown will affect residents and businesses in parts of Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, including Accra suburbs such as Ashaiman, Spintex, Sakumono, Nungua, Teshie, Prampram, Kpone and Dawhenya, as well as towns like Kpong, Akuse, Somanya and Atimpoku. Customers are urged to store sufficient water before the outage, use supplies judiciously, and hospitals and other essential services should put contingency plans in place. Ghana Water Ltd will deploy water tankers to support selected critical institutions during the interruption.
