Ghana wins bid to host 6th FAJ Continental Congress

Ghana has secured the bid to host the 6th Continental Congress of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ). The decision was made unanimously by the FAJ Steering Committee during a meeting in Accra.

The upcoming congress will convene journalists’ unions and associations from across the African continent to establish the FAJ’s priorities, elect new leadership, and engage with international partners. The event arrives as African media professionals face increasing challenges, including threats to media freedom, violations of labor rights, and economic instability.

During the steering committee meeting, FAJ President Omar Faruk Osman emphasized the need for a more organized response to attacks on journalists and called for improved media literacy and the protection of information integrity. Additionally, FAJ leaders met with President John Dramani Mahama to discuss the role of independent journalism in Africa’s democratic development.
