Ghana Youth Employment Agency to deploy 6,000 teaching assistants

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) plans to deploy 6,000 community teaching assistants to basic schools across Ghana by the end of November 2026. The initiative aims to support classrooms in hard-to-reach areas that have historically faced staffing shortages.

Announced by YEA Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale, the program follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ghana Education Service (GES) in September 2026. The scheme is designed as a dual-purpose intervention: providing essential classroom support while offering qualified young Ghanaians practical teaching experience and professional skill development.

Basintale noted that the YEA’s mandate focuses on partnering with institutions to provide training and workplace attachment rather than direct placement into permanent public or private sector roles.
