Ghanaian citizen Abu Trica's US extradition raises due‑process concerns

Frederick Kumi, known as Abu Trica, was extradited from Ghana to the United States to face wire‑fraud and money‑laundering charges. Amanda Clinton, Head of Chambers at Clinton Consultancy, called for strict adherence to Ghana's constitutional safeguards, arguing that the accused should benefit from full court protection before surrender.

Clinton highlighted that Ghana’s Extradition Act provides a habeas‑corpus period until July 17, yet the suspect appeared in a U.S. federal court on July 10. She questioned the haste of the transfer, stating, “What was the rush?” while acknowledging Ghana’s cooperation with the U.S., which praised nine extraditions in a year as “extraordinary.” Clinton warned against automatic compliance, insisting that international cooperation must respect Ghana’s rule of law.
