Ghanaian courts sentence individuals for various theft offenses
Several individuals in Ghana have faced legal consequences following recent theft incidents.
In the Central Region, 37-year-old herbalist Enock Antwi, also known as Nana Kakali, has been remanded into police custody for two weeks. He is accused of stealing a Hyundai Atos taxi belonging to Benjamin Akyerefi Baidoo. Police recovered the vehicle and report that Antwi allegedly sold it to scrap dealers in Suhum for GH¢7,000.
In the Ashanti Region, the Nsuta Circuit Court fined 24-year-old farmer Dauda Ibrahim GHC7,200 for stealing akpeteshie (local gin). Ibrahim faces three years in prison if he fails to pay the fine. The theft was captured on CCTV, which showed Ibrahim stealing multiple gallons of the liquor.
Additionally, the Bekwai Circuit Court sentenced 26-year-old Kofi Nti to two years in prison. Nti pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing five sound amplifiers and emulsion paint valued at GH¢3,300 from a neighbor.
