Ghanaian educational institutions report critical infrastructure deficits
Educational institutions in Ghana are facing significant infrastructure challenges, including abandoned projects and dilapidated buildings. At Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale, the Old Students Association has called for urgent government intervention to address stalled construction projects and inadequate housing for staff and students. The school's headmaster reported that his official residence has deteriorated to unsafe conditions, forcing him to commute daily and impacting administrative efficiency.
In the Wassa East District, the management of Atobiase D/A Basic School has appealed for the reconstruction of a 50-year-old classroom block. The headmaster warned that the aging structure poses a safety risk to pupils and teachers, noting that previous building collapses in the district highlight the need for complete reconstruction rather than routine maintenance. Despite these physical challenges, the school has maintained consistent academic performance.
