Ghanaian evacuee dies after repatriation flight from South Africa

A Ghanaian national died shortly after arriving at Accra International Airport on Friday, August 14, 2026, following a government-organized repatriation exercise from South Africa. The deceased was among 50 Ghanaians who arrived on an Air Tanzania flight at 5:50 p.m.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the passenger’s condition began to deteriorate approximately 30 minutes before the aircraft landed. Although a medical emergency team at the airport attempted to stabilize the individual immediately upon arrival, doctors confirmed the death at 6:55 p.m.

The identity of the deceased has not been released. The Ministry stated it is completing formalities to notify the family and that the remains have been taken to the Police Hospital for an autopsy. Further details regarding the circumstances of the evacuation and the passenger's health prior to boarding have not yet been disclosed.
