Ghanaian farmers face varying levels of fertilizer support

Agricultural support efforts in Ghana show contrasting outcomes across different regions. In the Nkwanta South Municipality, over 1,000 bags of NPK fertilizer were distributed across 30 electoral areas to boost food production and assist farmers facing scarcity and high costs. Local officials, including MP Geoffrey Kini and MCE Joseph Awal Antwi, emphasized that the intervention aims to ensure transparency and support the 71 percent of the population engaged in farming.

Conversely, farmers in Yeleyiri, located in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, report significant delays and inadequacies in government-supported fertilizer distribution. Local residents expressed concerns that the lack of timely inputs is threatening crop yields and food security. This agricultural struggle is reportedly driving youth migration to urban areas or toward illegal mining (galamsey) as young people seek alternative livelihoods due to limited local opportunities.
