Ghanaian government seeks justice after two citizens killed in New York
Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York has visited the family of 24-year-old Joseph Owusu to offer condolences and pledge government support following his death in the Bronx. Owusu, a caregiver and church chorister, was reported killed under unexplained circumstances, with an autopsy pending.
This incident marks the second death of a Ghanaian national in the Bronx within a single week, following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong on October 29, 2026. The Ghanaian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed shock at the consecutive tragedies and stated that the government will work with United States authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
