Ghanaian lawmakers criticize GFA President Kurt Okraku
Ghanaian lawmakers are intensifying criticism of Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), regarding his leadership and the management of the sport in the country.
Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has called for football reforms, accusing Okraku of being unable to handle criticism and viewing questioning as personal attacks. Awuah suggested that the scope of Ghanaian football is beyond Okraku’s current management. This follows a previous exchange where Okraku questioned the MP’s contributions to football infrastructure in his constituency.
Adding to the pressure, Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah described Okraku as the “worst-performing” GFA president in the nation's history. Assafuah clarified that his grievances are directed at the style of leadership rather than the individual, alleging that the GFA administration responds to inquiries with aggression and insults. The mounting political scrutiny highlights a growing debate over the role of government intervention in addressing the state of football in Ghana.
