Ghana President Mahama defends gold reforms and social media feedback
President John Dramani Mahama has defended the performance of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), stating that gold sector reforms have significantly boosted foreign exchange inflows and stabilized the cedi. He noted that small-scale gold exports rose from 64 tonnes in 2024 to 104 tonnes in 2025, with foreign exchange earnings from the sector increasing from $4.6 billion to $10.8 billion during the same period.
During an engagement with the Ghanaian community in Moscow, Mahama also addressed the role of social media in governance. He stated that he uses platforms like TikTok to monitor public complaints and feedback, which he then forwards to relevant ministers to ensure accountability. He emphasized that constructive criticism, regardless of political affiliation, serves as a tool to help him improve his leadership and identify governance challenges.
