Ghanaian leaders endorse Medical Trust Fund to expand healthcare access
Traditional leaders in Ghana are endorsing the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) as a vital mechanism to ensure that financial status does not prevent citizens from accessing life-saving medical treatment.
During a nationwide sensitisation tour, the Ga Mantse, King Nii Teiko Tsuru II, emphasized that the rising costs of specialised care place a heavy burden on families. He urged stakeholders to utilize the GMTF to support vulnerable populations and suggested the fund expand its focus to include maternal healthcare. Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the GMTF Administrator, noted that the fund aims to address gaps in medical equipment, infrastructure, and treatment costs, particularly for those suffering from non-communicable diseases.
In the Central Region, the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osbarima Kwasi Atta II, expressed support for the initiative, describing it as a source of hope for the future of healthcare delivery. He pledged that traditional authorities would assist in spreading awareness to ensure communities and vulnerable families are informed about the fund’s interventions.
