Ghana pledges support for scientific research and e-waste management

Ghana’s Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has pledged government support to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to improve working conditions and retain scientific talent. The Minister emphasized the importance of commercializing research and innovations to generate revenue and drive national development.

During her visit, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings also addressed the need for a national strategy to manage waste from the green energy transition. She called for proactive planning regarding the disposal and recycling of electric vehicle components and solar panels to prevent environmental threats. The Minister suggested that Ghana may need to negotiate international agreements for processing specialized waste and urged improved waste separation at household and industrial levels.
