Ghanaian MP criticizes NIB over anonymous social media probe
Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, has criticized the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) following its decision to summon NPP activist Efya Royal. The NIB is reportedly attempting to identify the individual behind the anonymous social media commentator known as ‘Ghana Jollof’.
Dr. Afriye described the summons as ‘the height of absurdity,’ arguing that the agency is conducting a ‘public fishing expedition’ rather than utilizing professional investigative methods. He noted that the anonymous commentator has repeatedly stated that her face has never been published on any public platform, making it difficult for an activist with no official connection to the subject to provide identification.
The MP urged the security services to utilize modern cyber-intelligence, digital forensics, and standard investigative protocols to identify the commentator instead of relying on citizens within overlapping political circles. The investigation follows allegedly unsavoury remarks made by the anonymous commentator regarding political figures and officials.
