Ghanaian municipalities launch new healthcare infrastructure and partnerships
The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly has commissioned a GH¢1.2 million Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facility in Miemia, Western Region. The project, funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund, includes nurses’ quarters and replaces an old community centre that served as the area's only health post for over two decades. The assembly is currently planning additional CHPS compounds for Chavene and Hotopo.
In Obuasi, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) and Project CURE have launched a healthcare partnership spanning 2025 to 2029. Project CURE will donate ten containers of medical supplies and equipment valued at approximately US$3.5 million to health facilities across two municipalities. AGA will contribute US$609,480 over five years to support the program. The initiative focuses on strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals through specialized training in areas such as essential newborn care, cervical cancer prevention, and women’s health.
