Ghanaian NDC officials challenge Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's economic record

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called on former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to defend his economic performance during his time in government. Amorse Amos Blessings, an aspirant for the NDC Greater Accra Regional Secretary position, stated that Bawumia's recent criticisms of the current economy provide an opportunity to scrutinize his own record as head of the previous administration's Economic Management Team.

Blessings argued that Bawumia would struggle to justify his past economic management when confronted with specific data and the lived realities of citizens. While Bawumia has characterized the current economic state as a “paper economy” where macroeconomic indicators do not reflect household realities, NDC representatives maintain that the policies of the Mahama administration did not produce the severe conditions seen under the current leadership.

Additionally, NDC communications team member Hamza Suhuyini urged Bawumia to focus on rebuilding his political credibility and integrity. Suhuyini suggested that Bawumia's current public commentary and the responses from his spokespersons may be undermining his efforts to rebrand his political image.
