Ghanaian pastor at large following counterfeit currency crackdown
The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) has launched a nationwide crackdown on criminal syndicates involved in the large-scale production and distribution of counterfeit Ghanaian and foreign currencies. Following months of covert intelligence gathering, security agencies conducted six coordinated operations between June 12 and July 24, 2026, across the Greater Accra Region and surrounding districts.
The operations resulted in the arrest of 16 suspects and the dismantling of four major counterfeit printing hubs. Authorities seized four printing machines, six vehicles, two motorcycles, and significant quantities of counterfeit notes and unprocessed currency coupons. Recovered materials include millions of dollars in US currency, CFA francs, and Ghanaian cedis.
Rev. Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah, a Ghanaian pastor, is currently at large. Investigators allege that his religious facility in Klagon was being used as a production and storage site. The NSCS reported that syndicates reportedly exploited churches and administrative offices to mask the noise and vibration of printing machinery and to conceal their activities.
