Ghanaian police officer promoted for rescuing victims from Aboso fire

Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters has been promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector following his heroic actions during a fire at the Aboso Main Lorry Station in Ghana’s Western Region.

The fire, which occurred on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, engulfed several shops and caused significant property damage. Atubra was the first police officer to arrive at the scene and immediately worked to evacuate individuals trapped by the flames, prioritizing the protection of lives despite the ongoing danger.

Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno approved the promotion in recognition of Atubra’s bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty. The Ghana Police Service stated that the decision reflects its commitment to rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional courage in protecting the public.
