Ghanaian police seize suspected Indian hemp in separate operations
Ghanaian police have conducted two separate operations resulting in the seizure of suspected Indian hemp and multiple arrests.
In an intelligence-led operation by the Special Operations Team, known as Red Mafia, officers intercepted a commercial van traveling from Bimbilla to Tamale. Authorities recovered 142 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp concealed in jute sacks. Four suspects—Alhassan Zeblim, Ibrahim Yussif, Bawa Yussif, and Mohammed Haruna—were arrested. During the encounter, the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GH¢50,000, which was rejected. The suspects and the seized items have been transferred to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
In a separate incident in the Volta Region, the Kpando-based Marine Police Unit discovered a suspected cannabis plantation and 16 sacks of dried leaves behind a fenced structure near Volta Lake in the Central Tongu District. A 31-year-old man, Vincent Lotsu, was arrested in connection with the cultivation and possession of the suspected narcotics.
